The O principle

Opertunity....opertunity........opertunity. Some would say that it's all about opertunity. But opertunity is what is is, not always, but only inplace at certain moments in "time". By splitting a physical confrontation into at least three different phases, you could find three major opertunity possiblities.

Phase 1

The conflict is starting, and you are able to see it coming. You have the chance of being aware and upfront with every move that is done.
In this phase it's possible to use a strike or other means of attack and stop the opponent in his/her tracks, without the means of using a block, tapping or gunting

Phase 2

In this phase there is time to block ie. the arm, and then counter attack. There is is small portion of control on the ie arm, but the timeframe or gravity of the situation craves that a counter attack is issued as fast as possible.

Phase 3

The third phase has the best opurtunity to take control ie. the arm, and then use a counter attack. This is typical done with a block and gunting on the ie. arm. Following up with ie a fist to the face.

Phase 4

Phase  resembles phase 1, since it is as "simple"as phase 1, but the opponent has an advantage or has come with such a surprise that any blocking/tapping or angling isn't possible.

You could get "stuck " in the phases, since your opponent could be flexible enough to continue or block your counter attack, thus prolonging the possiblity for counter attack opertunity. Working with different opponents and different scenarios will ensure you that you can handle any of these phases as best as possible.
