Only what you need
In most martial arts there are a huge variety of techniques, and some of them can be more exotic than others, this will become a problem in a situation where you need it to work as self defence in a stressing environment. Two major areas that influence your possibility to use your knowledge and techniques are:
- According to Hiks law, the reaction time increases as the variety of techniques that you can choose from are raised. Put bluntly the larger arsenal of techniques, the longer reaction time you will experience in an escalating conflict.
Another issue is that in a real life situation you will be challenged with extreme stress pressure, and in such circumstances you will lose more and more of your fine motor skills and will only be able to perform using gross motor skills.
This is why in Street Sence’s Reality Based Self Defence we only work with simple and effective movements, as these techniques are the only ones we can rely on when the adrenalin rushes through the body.Of course we all have different favorite weapons and techniques in our arsenal but it is all about keeping them simple and effective.
